The world’s most appetising 10-a-day created for veggie-haters by The Health Insurance Group
Food technology boffins at The Health Insurance Group have teamed up with world famous artisan chocolate maker, Porters of Southampton to create the world’s most appetising 10-a-day for veggie haters. The medley of super-nutrient infused finest Belgian chocolate vegetables are said to pack the same nutritional goodness as that of 800g of fruit and veg but taste absolutely divine to address the centuries old quandary that has baffled mankind: ‘how do you get people, particularly children, to eat their greens?’
According to a recent study by Imperial College London, eating loads of fruit and vegetables – 10 portions a day – may give us longer lives. The research looked at how much fruit and vegetables were needed to be consumed to gain the maximum protection against disease, and premature death. The study concluded that eating up to 800g of fruit and vegetables – equivalent to 10 portions and double the recommended amount in the UK – was associated with a 24% reduced risk of heart disease, a 33% reduced risk of stroke, a 28% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, a 13% reduced risk of total cancer, and a 31% reduction in premature deaths.
Explained lead food technologist at The Health Insurance Group, Colin Flower-Cheese: “Fruit and vegetables have some incredible healing properties and are proven to boost our health and immune systems. While many contain antioxidants, which may reduce the effects of DNA damage and potential cancers others offer glucosinolates, specifically found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, which can activate enzymes that may also help prevent cancers.”
On the breakthrough moment, Flower-Cheese continued: “We were also told by leading experts that it was impossible to bottle the complex network of nutrients and compounds found in fruit and vegetables into a pill but we have, even more excitingly, packaged them into a vegetable-shaped chocolate. Through the use of advanced food fortification techniques, we have impregnated shaped chocolate delicacies with key vitamins and minerals such as iron, folic acid, iodine, vitamin A, and zinc to massively improve the nutritional content.”
The handmade super chocolates come in a stunning assortment of milk, dark and white signatures exquisitely presented in an attractive weaved punnet featuring many family favourites including; creamy cauliflower, cool cucumber, crispy sweet red onion and warm wild mushroom. Natural carmine enhances the look while a deep and decadent aroma emanates from the delightful collection of almond ganache and sea-salted caramels.
“We used to be encouraged to eat at least five portions of vegetables and fruit a day. A tomato in a sandwich at lunchtime, a few spoonfuls of peas with a fish and chip supper and a couple of fruit pastilles would make up many people’s rather limp attempts,” continued Colin. “10-a-day was improbable let alone five but not anymore. If you happen to be health conscious with a sweet tooth then these supercharged chocolate vegetables are going to change your life – never before have I been able to say these are exciting times for both the brussel sprout and the finest cocoa!”
The super chocolate vegetables are on offer for one day only online from 1 April 2017.
